 Dr. Pamela McCauley Bush is President and owner of Tech-Solutions, Inc., a small business that provides engineering support, software development and research services. Tech-Solutions specializes in the areas of technical and analytic support, artificial intelligence, complex software development, human factors and industrial engineering. Tech Solutions has strategic partnerships with various private companies and has provided technical and training services to the United States Air Force, United States Army and the Federal Aviation Administration. Additionally, TSI was a member of the Department of Defense Mentor Protégé program with Raytheon Company and the Sandia National Laboratories Mentor Protégé program. Dr. McCauley Bush is also a tenured Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems at the University of Central Florida. From January 1997 to June 1998 she held the position of Martin Luther King, Jr. Visiting Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); her research focused on the use of fuzzy set theory in the quantification of human factors interventions and risk factors in the field of information security.
A native of Oklahoma, Dr. McCauley Bush obtained her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor of philosophy degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. In fact, in 1993 she became the first African-American female to earn a Ph.D. in the field of engineering in the state of Oklahoma. Most recently, Dr. McCauley Bush graduated form the Advanced Minority Business Executive Program (AMBEP) at the Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business.
Dr. McCauley Bush’s engineering related research focus includes evaluation and development of artificial intelligence models using fuzzy set theory, human factors model development, human factors in chemical and biological weapon development and the human impact in information security. She is the author of over 50 technical papers, book chapters and conference proceedings. In May 2006, Dr. McCauley Bush was awarded the Paper of the Year Award at the IIE Conference for research that she directed with her graduate student, Major Carla Joyner. Dr. McCauley Bush serves as a member of the editorial board for the journal of Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Sciences (TIES), Associate Editor of the Industrial Engineering Encyclopedia and referees technical research papers for IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, the International Journal of Industrial Hygienist, the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Conference Proceedings and Kluwer Academic Publishers. In 2004, Dr. McCauley Bush published her first book entitled Winners Don’t Quit…Today They Call Me Doctor. This is an inspirational story of the early challenges she faced in her pursuit of her B.S. in engineering and ultimately her Ph.D.
Dr. McCauley Bush has held various leadership positions in the business, technology and education communities. Presently, she serves on the Orange County Florida Board of Zoning Adjustment at the appointment of the Mayor of Orange County, Florida and is an elected member of the Board of Directors for the National Center for Simulation. In 2004, she was selected to serve on the Blue Ribbon Panel for Orange County Public Schools. In 2001 she was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush’s office to serve on the Florida Research Consortium, a position that she still holds today. Additionally, she has served on the National Board of Directors for the Women in Engineering Program Advocates Network (WEPAN) from 1998 - 2000. She presently maintains board membership in a number of agencies including the Beta Parent Program, the University of Oklahoma Industrial Engineering Advisory Board and the University of Oklahoma College of Engineering Minority Engineering Advisory Board.
Dr. McCauley Bush has received numerous individual awards in recognition of her professional accomplishments and community outreach efforts and has led Tech Solutions to recognition in a number of environments. Most recently, TSI was recognized as a high potential woman-owned business with the Make Mine a $Million Business Award from OPENSM from American Express, Count-Me-In and the Women’s Leadership Exchange. Additionally, in February 2007 Dr. McCauley Bush was recognized by the Florida Engineering Society with the Engineer of the Year Award for
Technical Excellence due to her academic, entrepreneurial and research accomplishments. In 2004 Dr. McCauley Bush received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Oklahoma; and the 2004 Rising Star Award was presented by Business Women’s Network to Tech Solutions, Inc. Dr. McCauley Bush has been continually recognized for her leadership in business, career success and commitment to the community. In 2003 she was recognized as one of the ten Small Business Women of the Year in Central Florida by the Orlando Business Journal; one of the ten Most Outstanding Republican Women of Central Florida in 2003; and the Millennium Woman of the Year 2001 by the Millennium Woman Foundation, Los Angeles California; and in 2001 she received the Central Florida Summit Award. Other honors include the Saturn/Glamour Magazine “Women Making a Difference Award” 2000 and the Outstanding Woman of Color in Technology Award for Educational Leadership in 1999.
Dr. McCauley Bush has been described as an outstanding professor and teacher. Her teaching efforts have also resulted in the receipt of both the College of Engineering Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the Teaching Incentive Program Award (TIP) and in 2004 she was named outstanding Engineering Educator of the Year by the Central Florida Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. She has received additional recognition from student groups including the Society of Hispanic Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers and the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
Dr. McCauley Bush is also a public speaker and lecturer, traveling around the country to give inspirational and informative lectures on women’s leadership issues, technology in America, and inspirational topics. In these speaking events she shares her challenges and triumphs in business and leadership. Additionally, she shares the benefits of determination, faith in God, and diligence in reaching for and achieving ones goals. Her activities have led to recognition in national publications including Black Enterprise, the Orlando Business Journal, Lifestyle Magazine, Charisma Magazine, the Florida Engineering Society Magazine, Career Engineer, Ebony, Essence, Jet, Lears Magazine, the Institute of Industrial Engineering Magazine and U.S. Black Engineer.
